Remembering Walter Giller


Walter Giller was born on August 23, 1927 in Reckinhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The son of a pediatrician he became a charismatic screen star with a presence in German cinema for more than six decades. He began his career as an electrician at the Hamburg Chamber of games. His film debut was in 1949’s " Artistenblut."

For his roles in "Roses for the Prosecutor" (1959) and " Zwei unter Millionen" (1961), he was awarded the Federal Film Prize. He achieved a great reputation through the comedic television series " Locker vom Hocker", from 1979 to 1982. Giller appeared in three Euro-westerns: “The Last Ride to Santa Cruz (1963), Legend of a Gunfighter (1964) and Legacy of the Incas (1965).

Giller married his fellow actor and colleague Nadja Tiller [1929- ] in 1956. The couple has two children, Natasha and Jan-Claudius.

His last major TV appearance was in January 2010 on the TV talk show "Beckmann". Giller died of lung cancer on December 15, 2011. Today we remember Walter Giller on what would have been his 85th birthday.
