Happy 70th Birthday John Cameron


John Cameron was born on March 20, 1944 in Woodford, Essex, England, U.K.. John Cameron's exceptionally broad experience as composer, arranger and music supervisor for film, TV and theatre has made him fluent in a wide variety of musical styles. His film credits include “Kes”, “Black Beauty”, the Oscar nominated “A Touch of Class”, “The Ruling Class”, “The Mirror Crack’d”, “Driftwood” and many more. He scored one Euro-western: “Charley One-Eye” in 1972.
 
John has also composed extensively for TV including the ITV dramas ‘Jack the Ripper’. ‘Jeckyl and Hyde’ and ‘Witness for the Prosecution’, starring Diana Rigg and provided the title music to BBC TV's ‘Crimewatch’. His choral arrangements for the Erato recordings of the Choir of New College have won critical acclaim; the recording of his large scale cantata, Missa Celtica also featuring the Choir of New College and the English Chamber Orchestra, was released on Erato in 1999. He scored one Euro-western TV series: ‘Alaska Kid’ in 1991.
 
He was executive musical director and principal arranger on Jose Carreras’ “Passion” and “Tru Passion”. In recent years John has focused on arranging and orchestrating for leading stage musicals such as “Les Miserables”, “Spend, Spend, Spend”, “La Cava” and “Honk!” also providing music for productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company; Royal National Theatre, including John Caird’s “Hamlet” with Simon Russell Beale in the title role; the Royal Court and the Deutshes Scauspielhaus.
