Remembering Franco Valobra


Franco Valobra was born on March 16, 1924 in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. Valobra was a writer, essayist, film critic, actor. Although born in Turin he considered his hometown Cortona where he resided for over ten years in the Etruscan town, a place he chose to live the last part of a career of great importance. Franco was an activist in the Action Party during World War II, he was also a pharmacist but soon chose to devote himself to journalism. Since then he wrote for a long series of newspapers and magazines, which gave him the opportunity to meet some of the major figures in literature, cinema and the arts on a global scale, and where he develops close friendships.
 
His film career included less than a dozen films among which were "Il nome della Rosa” and the experimental film "H2S". He appeared in one Euro-western: “Night of the Serpent” (1969).
 
Valobra died on May 20, 2010 in Cortona, Italy at the age of 86.
 
Today we remember Franco Valbora on what would have been his 90th birthday.
