Remembering Antonio Pierfederici


Antonio ‘Tonino’ Pierfederici was born on March 18, 1919 in La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy. In 1938 he moved from Sardinia to Rome to attend the Faculty of Law. In the years 1942-1943 he enrolled in acting classes at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts; among his companions was also Vittorio Gassman .
 
After graduation he made his debut in the theater directed by Luchino Visconti, in early 1945, in Parenti terribili”. He then worked in several companies including those of Laura Adani, Laura Solari, Sergio Tofano, Salvo Randone, and Vittorio Gassman before arriving at Milan's Piccolo Teatro Strehler for a series of shows.
 
In 1955 he was awarded the Premio San Genesio, for his performance inAspettando Godot”, by Samuel Beckett.
 
His film debut came in 1946 inUn giorno nella vita”, directed by Alessandro Blasetti, first in a series of 25 films in which he appeared until the beginning of the 1990s. During this time he appeared in his only Euro-western “The 4 Gunmen of the Holy Trinity” (1970).
 
Pierfederici was also heard delivering intense prose for radio RAI since World War II and then he was often seen on television in both dramas and comedies until his death in Rome on January 6, 1999.
 
Today we remember Tonino Pierfederici on what would have been his 95th birthday
